MERV is an acronym for "Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value;. MERV is commonly used rating system for air filters. The MERV rating system has been established in 1999 as a part of air filter testing standard number 52.2 by the American Society for Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (ASHRAE). The MERV rating simply states the ability of an air filter to remove particles for the air. Higher MERV rating means better filtration. MERV 11 or MERV 12 rated furnace filters are recommended. |
